These controllers (usually keyboard instruments) do NOT generally have built-in sounds, but have been designed to input musical note information into computer systems, MIDI modules and other peripherals.
  Unless you have a state-of-the-art computer system, you may experience "latency" problems using MIDI input keyboards with computer soundcards. Ask us for advice, as you may be able to add an external MIDI synth module to your system, or perhaps even choose an alternative keyboard with a built-in sound source.
