Our gallery of Folk Guitars

The following instruments are generally known as 'Folk Guitars', but some people refer to them as 'Acoustic',  'Folk', 'Westerns', 'Dreadnoughts' or 'Jumbos'.  They are characterised by their large, distinctive body shape, which is designed to produce a big generous sound and wide tonal output.  These guitars use 'ball ended' steel strings which are held in place behind the bridge of the guitar using pegs, and with metal 'machine heads' or 'tuning pegs' on the headstock of the guitar.
