Keyboards in Action

KeyboardsInActionsmall.jpg

Founded by Peter Chester, and originally based in Spalding, Lincs, Keyboards in Action expanded in the 1990's and evolved into Starland Music in 1994.  From the company which just supplied keyboard instruments to schools, Starland Music expanded the musical range to cover wind, percussion and stringed instruments too.

Keyboards in Action was originally an organisation which took the form of a concert presentation in primary schools, which was exciting, informative and inspirational to countless pupils and their teachers.  Peter Chester, who had first called the presentation Pianos in Action, found that an increasing part of each event involved the Yamaha portable keyboards which had been designed in the 1970's and 80's.

When Nick Kilby took over the management of the company in 1989, a wider range of instruments were incorporated into the Keyboards in Action presentation, and Peter continued to tour the country until he left to take up a position in the Falkland Islands.  John Brett and Pauline Dixon continued the concert program until the early 1990's.

Recommendations from teachers, pupils and parents as a result of these hundreds of school promotions, has made Keyboards in Action the most well-known educational specialist suppliers in the UK.  The experience gathered from the use of keyboard instruments in thousands of classrooms has underpinned the tremendous experience of today's Advisory Team.

As a result of requests from teachers for the company to supply music software, recorders, percussion instruments, brass and woodwind models, not just keyboards, a decision was made in 1995 to launch separate divisons, under the umbrella name Starland Music, and further information can be found on these other divisions by clicking Music Software Express, Keyboards Direct, Rhythm Time or WorldWinds.

Keyboards in Action is a registered trading name of Starland Music, and the name and logo has been registered with the European Trademarks office.
