Korg SP170s

Extending the range of 'SP' (Stage Piano) series pianos, Korg have introduced a lighter, lower cost and simplified version of the well regarded SP250 stage piano.

Introducing the SP170s, this 12Kg model features a further development however in key action, and these 88 weighted keys now rely on Korg's 'NH' (Natural Hammer) action for authentic touch whilst keeping the overall weight of the SP-170 to a minimum - very clever!

Onboard sounds include electric pianos, harpsichord, clavi, vibes, electric and pipe organ and obligatory strings.  All these sounds are carefully and meticulously sampled and directed to the built-in 9-watt speaker system.

The output level overall is not sufficient enough for live performance work (more suited to intimate practice), but thankfully, Korg saw fit to provide output sockets for connecting to further amplification or a mixer for those playing the bigger school or church halls.

There is little doubt that Korg have decided to produce a simple, no-frills model with the introduction of the SP-170, and as portable as it is with a handful of good-quality sounds, it is clear they are edging into home rehearsal territory with the SP170s, whilst still retaining their superb digital musical instrument technologies and reliability.

Supplied with mains unit, music rest and sustain pad, the SP170s is available in either black or white and whilst an optional fixed-frame wooden stand is available as shown in our picture above, alternative stands such as the KX70 below is a good alternative for those who wish to take the piano 'on the road'!
