The U1 has an advanced keyboard scaling, which combined with the large 121cm frame and longer strings, gives the U1 a beautifully rich, resonant and balanced timbre across the whole keyboard range. Yamaha's technical engineers have also designed a special rib configuration and a new back design that includes posts for the soundboard which enhance rigidity and resonance.

The hammers used on the U1 have also been specially designed to complement the other features and help to give optimum tonal production. All U-series models now have a longer music rest to help pianists and page turners alike. All U1 pianos are supplied with solid brass castors as standard, and they have even thought about the frantic time at the end of the lesson - you can flip down the lid, and it'll gently float down and close whilst you rush out!
