How do you improve upon an industry-standard model? Not an easy question for Yamaha's R&D team, as the predecessor (the YAS275), was widely regarded as one of the finest student altos manufactured during the past decade.

With this wonderful replacement model (the YAS280), Yamaha haven't made un-necessary changes, keeping the instrument as lightweight as possible, and with compact key mechanisms which have been welcomed by teachers working with students with smaller hands.

Supplied as an outfit, this beautiful model is suited to beginner/intermediate levels of playing abilities, and sees simple adjustments to the neck design (as well as a new low B-C# connection).
