We Think

Casio's CTK3500 takes over from the popular educational model (CTK3400SK), and employs a few new features together with improved tone and keyboard action.

A 5-octave model with USB and sensitive keys, it goes without saying that the CTK3500 will make a good case for connecting to software programs for PC and Mac, for controlling programs such as Cubase, Dorico, Sibelius and many more.

As a 'standalone' desktop model however, it highlights educational fun, and provides the fundamental features as required by music teachers such as transpose/tuning, various fingering modes as well as rhythm sync, intros and endings.

No recording on this model, instead Casio have opted for an authentic sounding 'Dance Music Mode'. This allows students to produce great sounding tracks by selecting any key to produce a music loop. Use other keys for modern effects (filters, beat chopping etc), and the result is surprisingly good!

For those who wish to distance themselves from contemporary music styles, the CTK-3500 offers traditional sounds and styles (pianos and strings, through to swing and latin music styles), all played via the stereo 2w speakers. A 6.35mm (large) jack is featured for those who wish to play via optional headphones.

With 48-notes of polyphony, the CTK3500 boasts a range of 400 onboard voices (with split & layer facilities), as well as 100 accompaniments played by the left hand, with intro, fill and ending options. This model introduces a pitchbend wheel, allowing the player to add further authentic 'slides' to onboard acoustic instruments (guitar, saxophone and synth lead/bass voices for example).

Digital reverb is onboard to further enhance the sound, and the CTK3500 is even capable of connecting with a free app known as 'Chordana' (for use with smart devices), allowing the user to view the score on the device to play along with.

For these reasons, we have opted to categorise the CTK3500 within our 'Progressive Leyboard Level 1 ' section, as it will allow students progression above and beyond the entry-level models.
